The Mecar CAN-90 is a Belgian anti-tank and tank gun from the Cold War and modern times with a caliber of 90 mm. The gun was developed by the Belgian arms company Mecar, founded in 1938 and acquired in 2014 by the NEXTER Systems arms concern. Currently, the company specializes in the production of ammunition with calibers from 25 to 120 mm. Currently, there are two basic versions of the presented gun: CAN-90H with a weight of 416 kilograms and CAN-90L with a weight reduced to 285 kilograms. Despite the difference in unladen weight, the ballistic performance and combat properties of both versions of the gun are very similar. Both versions are also designed to engage armored targets, but are capable of firing high-explosive or fragmentation shells. In general, it is assumed that the Mecar CAN-90mm cannon is capable of firing at a distance of up to 3,500 meters with an anti-tank shell and up to 4,200 meters with a high-explosive shell. However, effective fire for armored targets can be carried out at a distance of about 800-1200 meters. When firing an anti-tank HEAT shell, it is able to penetrate armor up to 350 mm thick over the above-mentioned distance.
