Inuyama Castle (Japanese names in the Latin alphabet are: Inuyama-jo and Hakutei-jo) is a defensive structure from the 15th-16th centuries, located in today's city of Inuyama in Aichi Prefecture on the Japanese island of Honshu. It is assumed that the Inuyama fortress is one of the oldest or even the oldest castles in Japan. It is assumed that its construction was completed in its original form around 1440-1450, i.e. in the era in the history of Japan called Muromachi. However, the present shape of the castle was acquired in the 30s of the 16th century, and Oda Nobuyasu was responsible for its reconstruction. It is worth adding, however, that the construction of the main defensive tower, which is called a keep in Polish, and in Japanese is called tenshu, was probably completed only in the first half of the 17th century! Until the Meiji era, the castle was privately owned, when it was taken over by the Japanese government. The castle was largely damaged in 1891 as a result of an earthquake. In 1935, the fortress was entered on the list of national treasures of Japan. Currently (2020), the castle is undergoing a deep renovation.
