BR 131 (another designation: DR 131/231 or ŁTZ TE109) is a series of diesel-electric locomotives that were produced in Voroshilovgrad in the USSR (now: Lugansk, Ukraine). In total, about 70-80 locomotives of this type were built. The length of a single locomotive was 20.62 meters, and the service weight - 116 tons. The locomotive in UIC notation had a Co'Co 'system. The BR 131 locomotives were constructed on the order of the East German railway lines (abbreviation: DR), as a development of the BR 130 locomotives. They were locomotives created from the beginning with a view to running freight rolling stock, and their first copies were created in 1973. First of all, the operational speed was reduced to 100 km / h (from 120 km / h), as well as the so-called tractive power. Many of these locomotives were often driven by heavy trains in difficult upland areas.
