WMC 015 Latarnia morska Tolbuchin

The Tolbukhin lighthouse is one of the oldest (still operating) lighthouses in the Baltic Sea and probably the oldest Russian lighthouse in this reservoir. The property is located on the Gulf of Finland at the entrance to the port of Kronstadt on a small rocky island. The order related to its construction was issued by Tsar Peter I the Great in 1718, and the building was erected a year later. Originally the lighthouse was called "Kotlińska", but probably in 1736 the name was changed to "Tołbuchin". The originally presented lighthouse was made of wood and it was not until 1810 that a new brick building was erected. At the end of the 19th century, the lighthouse underwent modernization, which gave it a form known to the 1960s. At that time, the lighthouse was modernized and restored again. It is worth adding that currently the range of light projected by the lighthouse is approx. 19 nautical miles (approx. 35.5 kilometers). The Tolbukhin lighthouse has also been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
