Heller 80887 Pamir

SV Pamir was a German sailing ship (windjammer) from the 20th century. The keel for the ship was laid at the beginning of 1905, and the launch took place in July 1905. The total length of the ship was 96.34 meters by 14.04 meters wide. The displacement of the sailing ship is about 4,600 tons. The unit had no on-board armament.

SV Pamir was included in the so-called windjamers, or "windbreakers" - huge and largest sailing vessels ever built, which used all the most modern technologies of the early twentieth century. On a large scale, steel was used to build such vessels - both for the construction of structural elements and for the plating, and a much smaller crew was required to operate the rigging than on the sailing ships of the nineteenth century. The windjambers were also able to reach speeds of 18-20 knots. Some people refer to these impressive ships as "the swan song of the Age of Sailing Ship". One such windbreaker was the SV Pamir, which was built at the Blohm und Voss shipyard in Hamburg. It was a four-masted barge that was designed to sail from Europe to Chile, including the circumnavigation of Cape Horn. She was also the last cargo sailing ship to make regular voyages on this route. SV Pamir sank on September 21, 1957 near the Azores as a result of terrible weather conditions and poor securing of the cargo, which in the course of the fight with violent winds shifted and led to the overturning of the sailing ship.
