The AS-20 Kayak (Russian designation: Ch-35) is a modern Russian subsonic anti-ship missile. In the basic version, the weight of the weapon is 520 kg, and the weight of the warhead is 145 kg. The length of the projectile is 385 centimeters. The speed varies from Mach 0.8 to 0.95. The maximum range of the weapon, in the basic version, is 130 kilometers. Design work on the AS-20 Kayak began in the mid-1980s, but due to the economic crisis of the USSR, and later the collapse of that state, the missile was not put into production until 1996, and it was initially directed to export markets. It was not used by the armed forces of the Russian Federation until 2003. In essence, it is a weapon very similar to the American AGM-84D Harpoon missile. The weapon can be used both during the day and at night, regardless of weather conditions. In the course of production, several variants of this missile were created, among them the version designated as Ch-35U, which has a significantly improved maximum range of 260 kilometers.
